Design & Digital Communications Assistant

Reports to: Research Assistant and Co-Executive Directors

Primary Location: Flexible - remote or at UNSW (Faculty of Law & Justice) Sydney

Employment Status: Casual - an anticipated ~10 hours per week from July 2026

Migrant Justice Institute (MJI) is looking to engage a casual Design & Digital Communications Assistant to support the presentation, publication and communication of findings and recommendations from MJI’s landmark survey of 10,000 migrant workers in Australia conducted in 2024.

Overview

In 2024, MJI conducted a national survey on migrants’ experiences of modern slavery and wage theft with 10,000 valid responses – the largest of its kind in the world. In May 2026, we launched the first in a series of reports and guides coming out of this landmark research: Off the Books: Inside Australia’s Hidden System of Migrant Worker Exploitation. Over the next 18 months we will continue to publish our findings in national and global reports that will influence policy and business practices to better protect migrant workers.

The Design and Digital Communications Assistant (DDC Assistant) will use design and communication skills to increase the impact of migrants’ voices by making our survey findings accessible and engaging to a wide range of audiences. Working under the supervision of the Research Associate and Co-Executive Director, MJI’s DDC Assistant is an integral member of MJI’s small passionate team.
